That personality is showcased well on upbeat melodic tracks like “BLACK AF1”, “8 Ball”, “Enigma”, and the very anticipated “JOKES ON YOU” & TOO HIGH. With Harlem being home to some of Hip-Hops best lyricist like Cam’ron, A$AP Rocky, Kurtis Blow, Big L, Mase and Dave East. Silk pays homage to those artists by displaying his own lyrical exercise on songs like “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop (Freestyle)” and “Self-Reflection”. He also delves deeper into more serious topics such as mental health, relationship struggles, and reflecting on one’s own life on tracks like “Unity”, “Better Off” and the highly anticipated “Lost Friends”. He has stated “I make music for myself first and foremost—most times as a therapeutic tool to put my mind at ease. So just like my emotions are forever changing be it in an hour, day, week or whatever, so does my music and subject matter. One is simply a reflection of the other.” As a young child his parents exposed him to a multitude of musical genres, from Hip- Hop to Rock to R&B to Pop & Alternative. With both of his parents previously being artist in their own rights he was surrounded with good music and taught to respect and appreciate true artistry. Growing up he listened to Artist like Drake, J Cole, Future, Young Thug, Tyler the Creator, Mac Miller, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Juice Wrld & Lil Uzi Vert. While having an affinity for artist from prior generations like Michael Jackson, Erykah Badu, Tupac, 50 cent, DMX, Jay-Z, Nirvana, Whitney Houston, Aaliyah, and Prince to name a few. Although only pursuing music for the first time in early 2020 as a child from 3rd grade to 8th grade Silk would be a member of the band, choir, and drama club, and frequently wrote poems when bored in class. So, it’s safe to say the creativity and entertainment are second nature to him. In all this you might notice it’s hard to put Silk into a box in almost anything. He is what some would call a Renaissance Man or a Jack of all trades, he takes musical inspiration from all genres, artist, and entertainers and in result he creates a diverse catalogue of music with different vibes, subject matter, and sounds. Although the style of music he chooses to make may change, Silk maintains the same raw authenticity fans have grown to love and expect from him. In a closing excerpt from our sit down he said “I hate when someone tries to box me in one genre—I’m not just hip-hop, I’m not just pop, I’m not just rock, I’m not just alternative...I’m an artist. I divulge personal experiences, emotions, and thoughts in every single song. I hope that authenticity seen or heard by whoever comes across my music. I want to be that light at the end of somebody’s tunnel or that moment at the end of a bad day where they can just turn on my music feel good and find that will power to keep fighting and evolve into a better version of themselves”.
